🇬🇧 Salzburg Journey Begins | From Germany to Austria, to the City of Mozart

📌 Today's Itinerary

Munich Airport Sixt → Picked up rental car → Arrived in Salzburg → Lunch at Sternbräu → Mozart Residence → Mirabell Garden → Getreidegasse → Mozart's Birthplace → Café Tomaselli → Hohensalzburg Fortress → Mönchsberg Viewpoint → Dinner at East Salzburg → Check-in at Max 70 Hotel

 

🚗 Crossing the Border from Germany to Austria by Rental Car

We started the day by picking up our rental car from the Sixt branch at Munich Airport.

As soon as we crossed the border, I got an automatic message saying “International roaming in progress.”

Driving wasn't difficult at all, and both German and Austrian highways were well maintained and easy to navigate.

However, I was very cautious of speed cameras, so I made sure to obey all speed limits. Also, I was worried about theft, so we never left luggage in the car and always stored it at our accommodations.

Luckily, there were no incidents during the trip.

This 10-day paper sticker must be attached to the windshield of your vehicle.”

 

“One must-have item in Salzburg is the Salzburg Card!
We got the 24-hour pass, which gives you free entry to many attractions and unlimited public transport.
It even covers the cable car to Hohensalzburg Fortress—great value!”

 

Oh, and for parking, we found a public parking lot. I don’t quite remember the payment method, but we managed it smoothly somehow.

 

 

 

 

 

• 🍽️ Lunch – Sternbräu RestaurantThis traditional Austrian restaurant greeted us with a warm atmosphere.
  • The first dish was a rich venison stew in wine sauce with potato dumplings.
  • The second was roast pork with Bavarian red cabbage and bread dumplings.
  Everything just melted in the mouth.
• Once we arrived in Salzburg, our first stop was Sternbräu!

🏠 Mozart Residence & Mirabell Garden

After lunch, we visited the Mozart Residence, where he actually lived.

The modest and tidy space gave us a closer glimpse into the life of the genius composer.

Then we headed to the Mirabell Garden, famous for “The Sound of Music.”

The weather was a bit cloudy, but walking down the same stairs and floral paths from the movie felt magical.

We also crossed a lovely bridge filled with colorful love locks.

🎼 Mozart's Birthplace & Getreidegasse

Next, we went to Mozart's Birthplace on Getreidegasse.

The exhibitions were informative and interesting, even for those not familiar with classical music.

The street itself was lined with shops and cafes, making for a pleasant stroll.

☕ Café Tomaselli – A Sip of Salzburg's Soul

At one of Austria’s oldest cafés, Tomaselli, we took a sweet break.

The Viennese coffee and cake combo was delightful.

The whipped cream on top felt effortlessly elegant—perfectly in tune with the classic vibe.

🏰 Hohensalzburg Fortress & Mönchsberg Viewpoint

The highlight of the day was definitely Hohensalzburg Fortress.

This magnificent fortress overlooking Salzburg was breathtaking.

We were speechless at the panoramic view—it was truly stunning.

Note: The funicular (mountain train) to the fortress operates on a set schedule, so make sure to go before the last ride. Check the time in advance!

The Mönchsberg Viewpoint also offered a panoramic view of the city, continuing the magical mood from the fortress.

  Everything was perfect for ending the day.

Salzburg wrapped up nature, cityscape, culture, and food in one perfect bundle.

It was a long day full of movement, but every minute was worth it.

And Hohensalzburg Fortress... you absolutely must go. No doubt!
